IN YOUR HOME
Your child might already have a diagnosis – Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, a developmental disability, or a mental health disorder. They have difficulty to make transitions, make sense of the environment, tell you what they want, learn new skills, make friends, or stay calm in difficult situations. Concerned about your children’s well-being and burdened by the challenges posed by their disability, you feel stuck and have found it physically and emotionally overwhelming when raising children with special needs.
You have been making tremendous efforts to make sure your children receive eligible services so that they are able to learn. They receive occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, behavioral intervention, small group instruction, and so on. All these services are helpful and great. However, the relationship piece is missing. You want to play with them, to do fun things together, or to share joyful moments. You want to find that “magic key” to open the door to these childrens’ world.
Parents are the best experts about their children. Entering your child’s world is possible when you have the right tools and techniques. When you play with your child you engage with your child in a non-demanding manner. Your child will learn social skills, problem solving, and how to express ideas more effectively. Through play, your child opens up and connects with you. As a therapist with extensive experience in play therapy based on the DIR/ Floortime™ Model, you and I will work as a team on understanding your children’s world, learning their language, and discovering their uniqueness and potential.
